I booked directly on your website, when can I buy Travel Insurance?Travel insurance Coverage may be purchased at the following times: At time of initial booking At any time WHEN 30 days or more from check in date. At time of booking or within +5 days of booking WHEN the arrival date is less than 30 days from check in date. Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) travel insurance cannot be purchased for an arrival date of less than 30 days before check in date. Other eligibility rules apply such as place of residence and destination. If the traveler resides in an ineligible location or is traveling to an ineligible destination, no purchase will be allowed.
-
Do I need travel insurance?Travel Insurance covers unforeseen circumstances that may occur before or during your trip. It can protect you from losing your monetary investment if you have to cancel your trip within the penalty period where travel suppliers and tour operators keep your non-refundable deposits. It also provides coverage for other problems that you may face during your trip, such as lost, stolen, or damaged baggage, reimbursement of medical expenses and expenses incurred to evacuate you back to your home and more. When booking direct through our website, you will have the ability to purchase two different types of travel insurance: Traditional travel insurance. This program responds to risks incidental to planned travel and includes reimbursement for the cost of the booking if a covered event occurs that forces you to cancel the trip; additionally, proportional reimbursement can be made for covered events causing the trip to be delayed or interrupted. Covered events include things like • being hospitalized, • death of a close family member, • unforeseen hurricane or an mandatory evacuation. Travel insurance offers are available to residents of all US states and all Canadian provinces except Quebec. See policy for details. Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Protection. This is what it sounds like - the CFAR benefit pays out if you cancel the trip for any reason at all, even one that isn't listed as a covered reason in the policy. The catch is that it only pays out 60% of the costs if you don't have a covered reason. At the moment, CFAR can be purchased only by residents of the United States and Canada. CFAR is not available to residents of New York, Washington, and Quebec. The CFAR benefit must be claimed at least 48 hours prior to scheduled trip departure date (check in). See CFAR policy for details. You are given the option to choose (opt in) which type they wish to purchase, or to refuse the protection.

Any particular advice regarding driving and safety of vehicle and contents outside of common sense of not leaving valuables in the vehicle? For your safety and convenience, please keep your vehicle's doors unlocked and the windows partially down to signal that the car is open. Avoid leaving any valuables in the vehicle; take everything with you or be prepared for the possibility of loss. It's best not to lock your glovebox. Most rental cars are manual transmissions, so be sure to use the parking brake to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Note that there are no traffic lights on the island, and you'll encounter many pedestrians, cyclists, and scooter riders. Beeping is a common way for locals to greet each other, so don’t be surprised if you hear it often.

Are there any entry fees to enter Bonaire?Yes. As of July 1, 2022, Bonaire has implemented a new entry tax. This tax replaces the 'tourist tax' and 'car rental' tax that visitors paid. Visitors will have to pay $75.00 per visit per person for ages 13 and above. For ages 12 and below and former Netherland Antilles residents, will have to pay $10.00 per visit per person. This tax can be paid digitally https://tourismtax.bonairegov.com/ or upon arrival at the airport. On July 1, 2024, the first three changes following the tourist tax evaluation will take effect: 1) The validity of the tax paid is extended to 1 month 2) Island children not living on Bonaire go to the low rate of $10 per person. 3) Exemption for all Bonairian students studying full-time abroad Every effort has been made to have these changes become effective per July 1, 2024. As a result, although the changes are recognized in the system, it is not yet possible to upload the required proof documents into the system in advance. For now, these are checked manually at the airport or at the port. For more information please visit: https://bonairegov.com/inwoners/toeristenbelasting

What do I need to bring with me to snorkel? We recommend bringing your snorkel mask, booties, fins, and, of course, your bathing suit! We recommend wearing a rash guard, skin suit, or wetsuit for sun protection, as this eliminates the need for sunscreen, which can be harmful to the coral reefs. The rocky shores make booties a safer and more comfortable choice for getting in and out of the water. These garments will keep you protected from the sun and stings while also helping to preserve the marine environment. If you don’t have snorkel gear, don’t worry! There are plenty of dive shops on the island where you can easily rent or buy everything you need.
-

Any particular areas/activities/restaurants on the island that are "must see"?Echo Parrot Sanctuary tour Donkey Sanctuary – buy a few bags of carrots & cut them into quarter size pieces so you will have plenty to feed the donkeys. Don’t give them all out in the beginning or you won’t have enough to give by the end of the drive. Snorkel – You need thick sole dive boots & open heeled fins. Bari’s Reef at the broken down pier – it’s like swimming in an aquarium. In front of our property - you will see turtles, pufferfish, filefish, parrotfish, trunkfish, eels, sea urchins, tarpons, sergeant majors, bonefish, goatfish, angelfish, blennies, and if you can spot them you’ll see octopus, lobsters, spotted eagle rays, ocean triggerfish and lots of juveniles. Lac Bay – walk out through the shallow bay to the reef and check out the beautiful reef, swim to the left to see the elk corals & on the way in you will see large conch. La Dania’s Leap – take a jump into the pristine corals & drift to Karpata. Wayaka – spend that day snorkeling at Wayaka I, II & III in Washington Slagbaai Park. Klein – we suggest going to Klein with SeaCow (if you are more independent) or Woodwind (if you like more guidance) or do both – but then do Woodwind first then SeaCow. Mangrove kayak & snorkel – we think the snorkel is the best part of this tour, but you want to go with a small tour company & be the first to go on the snorkel. Otherwise, everyone will kick up the sand and you can’t see anything – especially when there are a lot of people. Sit at the boulevard with a cold drink & watch the sunset. Enjoy ice cream at Luciano’s or Gio's in town. Yhanni makes authentic Venezuelan arepas behind Budget Marine. Hike up Brandaris – you have to take the short route in Washington Slagbaai Park because you can’t get there from the long route & you can’t backtrack. Bird watching – see flamingos, parrots, parakeets, herons, egrets, pelicans, laughing gulls, ducks, etc. Weekend Bar has live music on Sundays at Lac Cai. There is so much more! Just ask!

Why won't my waitress/waiter bring me the check? In many restaurants, especially in Bonaire, once you're seated, the table is yours for the entire evening. There's no rush to finish your meal, unlike in some other countries like the USA. That's why your waiter or waitress won’t automatically bring you the check. When you're ready to leave, simply request the bill from your server, and they'll be happy to bring it to you. This allows for a more relaxed and leisurely dining experience.
